EDWARD AND MARION SILVA CHARITY

One of the main reasons for the creation of this charity was for the maintenance of the Silva Memorials in the Church and Churchyard. The Church Tower Clock is a Silva Memorial. Details of the charity are on a Board in the Church Porch. The provisions of this charity were broadened in 1995 with the active support of the Charity Commissioners and it is now possible for the Trustees to provide relief for those in need and to assist with the provision of educational and training needs of the young people of the parish. Trustees: The Rector and the Churchwardens of Chilbolton.

THE LAYFIELD TRUST (established in 1710)

Doctor Charles Layfield, Rector of Chilbolton, 1699-17 15, bequeathed an interest in his estate to apprentice young Chilbolton people to a trade. It is now used to help Chilbolton school leavers to buy books or tools to help in their trade or further education. Income is at some £40 per annum with Merrill Lynch.

The above two charities have now being amalgamated. The new single charity will have similar aims as its two constituent parts and will be called ‘The Layfield Silva Trust”.

WAR MEMORIAL CHARITY

For Ex-Servicemen and Dependents of the War of 1914-1918. This charity was created in 1922 with a basic sum of £115. It is not known where the original capital originated. The Minute Book, Bank Pass Book and all papers up to

1948 were lost in a fire, as were many other Parish Council documents. The Charity Certificate is held by the Official Custodian of Charities in London. In 1994 it was agreed by the Trustees, with the sanction of The Official Custodian of Charities, to transfer the capital and interest to St. John’s Unit of the War Memorial Hospital, Andover to be used for the future enjoyment of Chilbolton people resident there.
