The Winner of the 2005 Chilbolton Bridge Club Trophy

In Philip Harrison’s acceptance speech, now published in three volumes, he said that:

In January of 2005 one of my New Years Resolutions was to win the coveted Chilbolton Bridge Club Trophy. I sat down with my wife Margaret in the early part of the year and we devised a strategy which would enable me to lift the trophy. Margaret said a life-style change would be needed so, with reluctance, I gave up my regular visits to the Abbott’s Metre where, after a couple of pints of Abbots Ale, melting eyed beauties in lacy black-under things fought with each other to serve me Kummel. I was known there as a sleek hopper who could tango sinuously whilst puffing smoke into the bodices of the waitresses.

That had to go. I limited my night-outs to the Andover Bingo Hall where, before going out,  I would wash sparsely, curl my moustache with a heated hairpin, difficult and painful as I had shaved it off when I was in my 20s; however, I would flick a drop of Sheik Lure on my lapel and off I went surely a man to rule the Bingo Hall.

Forsaking all pleasures I worked hard throughout the year on getting my inner self calm. My time as Linesman at the Church was much commented upon and increased the attendance hugely. This activity helped me increase my concentration and finally after much violent and rough play, which is the style of the Club, the trophy was mine.

Mr. Harrison feels that certain of the statements made above are incorrect so the Web Masters have given him an opportunity to correct matters of fact;

Dear Sirs,

May I correct the incorrect impression...   and so on for several pages

Yours Sincerely,

P.Harrison Air Commodore retired. KNAS (Mrs.)

Chilbolton Bridge Club

The Chilbolton Bridge Club is a small but active society run by Mark and Glynis in the Club House at the rear of  Milbourne, Drove Road. Beginners are catered for in informal classes run throught out the year. There are lessons for players of all standards and students are encouraged, where appropiate, to join games of a higher standard which are played during the day and the evening.

Many people, I think, and not only young people would like to play bridge if they"knew how to start" Well, the Chilbolton Bridge Club is the place to start.

Later this year it is hoped to show various hands on the web site and invite people to put forward suggestions as to how the hand might be played.
