The Abbott's Mitre, Chilbolton

The Abbots Mitre

The Abbott's Mitre had had a reputation for good pub food, friendly service and a range of cask beers to suit most tastes. It was a good place to meet friends and family and as a base for walks in the area. The Abbots Mitre also featured occasional live music and there was a juke box with some of my favourite tunes on it. The pub was on the site of the old village blacksmiths shop and next to the village pond, now the pumping station. It had won the  the Test Valley in Bloom Best Pub award in the past but something went wrong. There were three licencees who did their best but failed. But now there is a new owner and first reports are great. Out has gone the juke box and in has come flowers on the table, new furniture and amazingly a chef who can cook; what ever next.

Now friends Sam and Tom with their families and a team of international chefs warmly welcome guests to the re-vamped Abbots Mitre. This quintessential village pub combines all the charms of a typical English pub in the front bar with a delightful Italian restaurant to the rear.

The bar offers a choice of nine local and national beers plus Peroni Nastro Azzurro. This beer promises and does quench the thirsts of Tuscans and locals alike. In the restaurant around 30 wines from nearly every region of Italy complements their home cooked Italian food. Indeed they are the only restaurant around that I know that keeps bottles of Primitivo wine from Puglia.

The restaurant also offers light snacks and real super thin-crust pizzas to eat in or take-away.

All in all this is a nice place to go and I am sure that it will be a great success.
